Kano driver sentenced to seven months in jail for stealing Brazilian hair from Abuja trader

KANO driver Shedrack Paul has been sentenced to seven months in prison by an Abuja magistrates court for stealing several Brazilian hair wigs valued at a total of N96,500 after he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Mr Paul, 29, was also ordered to pay N96,500 to the complainant, Imeh Edet, of  Durum II, Abuja. However, the magistrate, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of paying a N8, 000 fine rather than going to jail.

Police prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, had told the court that the convict, was entrusted with hair wigs to deliver to Lagos but he dishonestly converted the said goods to his personal use. Ms Edet, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station after all efforts to recover the hair wigs proved abortive.

According to the prosecution, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Nigerian Penal Code. Brazilian hair is the latest vogue in Nigerian fashion circles and represents a large chunk of the beauty and clothing industry.
