ENGLISH Premier League side Crystal Palace has signified an interest in buying Nigerian winger Victor Moses from Chelsea for £12m following his falling out of favour with new manager Maurizio Sarri this season.
Moses, 27, has not featured much for Chelsea this season as following the arrival of Mr Sarri, the team has switched from the 3-5-2 formation in which he played as a wingback to a 4-3-3 structure. Now a peripheral figure in the team, Moses, who retired from international football to concentrate on his club career appears to have run into a cul-de-sac and is looking for a way to revive his career.
Already, Mr Sarri has told Moses that he can leave the club during the January transfer window as he is not central to his plans over the forthcoming season. Several clubs are believed to be interested in Moses, including Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG where his former Chelsea team mate Oscar plays.
Now, Crystal Palace, where Moses began his career is also said to be in the fray but Chelsea are holding out for £12m for the player. Moses played for Palace between 2007 and 2010 after coming through their youth ranks, from where he joined Wigan Athletic before signing for Chelsea for £9m from in the summer of 2012.
So far this season, Moses has only made six appearances for Chelsea, falling from the high perch he occupied last year when he was a regular starter. Moses played in 40 matches when Chelsea lifted the English Premier League title during the 2016/17 campaign, while he made 38 appearances last season.
Currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier league table, just two points off the relegation zone, Crystal Palace needs more firepower upfront it is to avoid the drop. Moses would be an ideal addition to their squad as so far, the team has only scored 13 goals this season, the second lowest in the league.
