Can our GOs please sell all their private jets and invest the proceeds in a Lagos to Calabar 853km windmill wall

By Ayo Akinfe

(1) I will forever maintain that as the world’s largest black nation, Nigeria owes it to humanity to do unprecedented things. When you are the biggest of the negro countries, the giant of the continent that is bang in the middle of the earth, you cannot just exist like everyone else. You have a cross to bear and come what may, you simply have to shoulder that burden

(2) No matter how long it takes, Nigeria cannot shirk away from her responsibilities. For now, she is acting like Jonah, running away from Nineveh but alas, it is only a matter of time before the whale swallows her up and deposits Nigeria on the shore of human development. Nigeria must propel the human race to new heights come the 22nd century as China did in the 21st century, America did in the 20th century and Britain did in the 19th century

(3) If you just look at what is happening in Dubai and China now, you will realise that they are building the biggest, tallest, fastest, longest and widest of everything. Look back in history and you will notice that countries like Britain, France, the US, Japan, Russia and Germany all once did this. The law of averages will suggest that one day, it will be the turn of the world’s largest black nation to take over the baton

(4) Whether we like it or not, Nigeria simply has to join the league of super achievers that do daring and unprecedented things which will make the rest of the work marvel. When I look at the seven wonders of the Ancient World, I ask when are we going to build a monument to match the Pyramids of Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Temple of Artemis, the Statue of Zeus and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus?Trust me, we will do something of this nature in our lifetime

(5) Europeans have always been notorious for building walls. Be it the Berlin Wall, Hitler’s Atlantic Line or the Maginot Line. Like the Great Wall of China, they were built to keep enemy invaders out. Let us show the world we are indeed the original man and come up with a productive wall that enhances the quality of life. Homo Sapiens emerged from Africa, so let us show the rest of humanity that our thinking is more original, productive and beneficial to the human race

(6) Nigeria has a coastline of 853km. The country is also facing a power crisis as we only generate about 3,000MW of power, yet our requirement is 180,000MW. However you look at it, we need to do something dramatic to bridge the gap. Building all these small plants that only generate 500MW is never going to address the matter. I am a firm believer in the Big Bang solution to problems

(7) How about we build the new world’s longest windmill wall stretching along our coastline from Lagos to Calabar? Would that not generate all the power we need and solve our electricity woes? Also, just imagine the respect and prestige Nigeria would get for launching such a project

(8) It will be interesting to find out how much power this wall would generate but with clean energy being the way of the future, I do not think we really have any choice but to toe this line. Everyone is moving away from fossil fuels and our senators may be in denial but it is only a matter of time before nobody wants crude oil anymore. One day, they will just wake up and find out that automobile companies and no longer manufacturing fuel cars

(9) If Nigerians want to build this windmill wall they will. What is lacking is the political will. People will shout government, government, government but I know my people. If they want to build the world’s biggest church they will. Poor governance did not stop us building the world’s largest church auditorium in Abuja. Our Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC) church centre can take 100,000 worshippers, so please spare me the excuses my people. We spend more building churches and mosques than it would take to build this coastal windmill wall

(10) I actually believe that all we need is to get one of these projects off the ground. If we do, it will fill us with confidence and spur us on to do greater things. Here is my challenge to all Nigerians - Tell all your GOs to sell their private jets and invest the proceeds into a joint venture that will build a Lagos to Calabar 853 Windmill Wall. Building the world’s largest windmill farm will announce Nigeria’s arrival at the high table of human development
