APC appoints Victor Giadom of Rivers State as its acting secretary to replace Mai Buni

NIGERIA'S ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Victor Giadom of Rivers State as its acting national secretary pending the election of a substantive officer into the position following the election of Mai Mala Buni as the Yobe State governor.

Alhaji Buni was the APC's secretary but in the March gubernatorial elections, we was elected as Yobe State governor and is due to assume office on May 29. Mr Giadom will act as secretary until the Yobe State chapter of the party can produce another secretary as the position was zoned to the state.

A close ally of Rotimi Amaechi, Mr Giadom was picked by Tonye Cole, the APC's Rivers State gubernatorial candidate in the last election as his  running mate. However, a court order annulled Mr Cole's candidacy, so the duo did not appear on the ballot paper and Mr Giadom thus returned to his position as the APC deputy national secretary.

A former Rivers State commissioner of works Mr Giadom is from Gokana Local Government Area of Ogoniland, just like Magnus Abe, who was Mr Cole's main rival for the governorship ticket. Mr Giadom was a former executive chairman of Gokana Local Government Area and served as commissioner between 2011 to 2015.
