EFCC arrest Zamfara State's outgoing SSG's brother with N60m in cash and two firearms

ECONOMIC and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials have arrested a man said to be the brother of the secretary to the Zamfara State Government Professor Abdullahi Shinkafi with N60m ($165,884) in cash and two firearms.

 

With the government of Zamfara State due to change hands today and Professor Shinkafi due to leave office as part of the administration of Governor Abdulaziz Yari, his brother identified as Murtala Mohammed, was arrested at a housing estate following a tip-off. He was also caught in possession of a Black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sports utility vehicle, one single barrel gun and one locally made revolver.

 

EFCC spokesman Tony Orilade, said: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Sokoto zonal office yesterday arrested one suspected politician with N60m cash, following an intelligence report of his suspicious money laundering activities. The suspect, Murtala Muhammad, who is alleged to be a brother to secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Professor Abdullahi Shinkafi, was arrested at 145 Igala Housing Estate, Gusau, Zamfara State, by the operatives of the commission.

 

“Items recovered from him at the point of arrest include one Black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep with registration number DKA 67 PX Kaduna loaded with four Ghana Must Go bags, containing N1,000 notes of N15m  each, totalling  N60m, one single barrel gun, one locally made revolver, 25 rounds of cartridges and 12 rounds of 12.9mm live ammunition. He will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed."
