EKITI State governor Ayo Fayose has denied stories currently trending on social media that he promising to commit suicide if President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Nigeria alive from the UK.
On may 7, President Buhari flew to the UK to recuperate from an undisclosed illness after 105 days away, he returned to the country last Saturday. While the president away, governor Fayose was one of President Buhari's harshest critics, demanding a full disclosure of his health status and a request that he either resume or resign.
Since President Buhari has returned to the country, Governor Fayose has come under attack by political opponents for suggesting that the president was dead. It has been alleged that the governor claimed he was so certain that President Buhari was dead that would commit suicide of the president returned to the country alive.
At least one demonstration has been held in the Ekiti State capital Ado Ekiti, calling on Governor Fayose to resign having boasted about committing suicide. However, Idowu Adelesi, Governor Fayose's spokesman said that the statement was not made by the governor, claiming it was a creation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Mr Adelesi said: “Governor Fayose never said he would commit suicide if the president returns to the country. It is the creation of the APC and it is their style to create such falsehood."
