EKITI State governor Ayo Fayose has insisted that he stands by all he said about President Muhammadu Buhari regarding his ill health and has urged him to leave office and go home to recuperate in Daura.
On Friday, President Buhari returned to Nigeria after spending 105 days in the UK where he was recovering from an undisclosed illness. While President Buhari was away, Governor Fayose was one of his fiercest critics and at one stage, he even claimed the president was on a life support machine.
Governor Fayose, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governors Forum advised the president to resign so as to look after his health because he is sick and tired. Speaking during a meeting with political office holders at Government House in Ado Ekiti, the governor urged President Buhari to return to his home town Daura immediately.
"If not for our efforts, Buhari wouldn’t have returned now but as you can see Buhari is sick and tired and even his physical appearance portrays this and he needs to go home and rest. Today, they have cancelled the Federal Executive Council meeting but you cannot hide the truth forever, it will reveal itself someday as you cannot continue to deceive Nigerians.
“Every word that has come out of my mouth, I have no apology for them. President Buhari was indeed in coma and one of those who visited him said his recovery is a miracle, which shows that he was indeed very sick, so let Buhari go back to Daura and rest, don’t send him to early grave," Governor Fayose added.
He also denied reports on the social media that he vowed to commit suicide if the president came back alive from his medical vacation to the United Kingdom. Governor Fayose attributed the rumour to the work of miscreants spreading misleading reports about him on the social media.
Governor Fayose said pressure from him and the civil society groups including the Resume or Resign Movement, was responsible for the forced return of the president. He maintained that the president went to coma on July 6.
