Nigerian football agent Emeka Obasi cleared of any wrongdoing during Sancho transfer by English FA

NIGERIAN-born football agent Emeka Obasi involved in the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund has been cleared by the British Football Association (FA) after an investigation over the circumstances surrounding the transfer.

Mr Obasi had been under investigation after German newspaper Der Spiegel claimed he was paid an irregular payment of £200,000 by Manchester City when Sancho joined the club from Watford in 2014. Sancho was 14 at that time and FA rules in England forbids players of that age to be represented by agents as they can only allowed representation once they reach the age of 16.

After an investigation, however, the FA said it found no evidence that Manchester City made an illegal payment to the agent as alleged by Der Spiegel earlier this year. Also, the FA said it found no evidence that Mr Obasi acted as a scout and has thus cleared him to resume his duties as Fifa-licensed agent.

Sancho has since gone on to build a very successful career in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and he is now a senior international player with England. It is believed that he could leave the German side for a huge fee in the next transfer window although many reports are suggesting it will likely be in the summer of 2020.
