Ndidi in the sidelines for a month with knee injury that will require minor surgery

SUPER Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is to undergo a minor operation on his knee that will keep him out of action for a few weeks in a setback from his clubside Leicester City who are currently chasing a Champions League spot in the English Premier League.

Ndidi, 23, has been a revelation this season, winning more tackles in the English Premier League that any other player. he has been ever-present in what has been a remarkable season for Leicester so far as the team sits in second place in the table with 45 points and is hopeful of securing one of the four Uefa Champions League sports.

Yesterday, however, Ndidi was absent from a Carabo Cup game at home to Aston Villa, which ended 1-1 with compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the equaliser for Leicester. According to Leicester, Ndidi could be sidelined for up to month after suffering a knee injury in training.

Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester City manager, said: "Wilf took a knock in training yesterday, which unfortunately means he might need a slight operation tomorrow. That'll put him out for a few weeks but it's not overly serious, so hopefully, going into February, he'll be fit and ready to go again.

"He nipped his miniscus changing direction, so he will go in for a minor operation. He will miss all of January and early February."

Ndidi has played in 24 of Leicester's 26 matches this season and it is now likely that he will sit out five Leicester games, including the second leg of the Carabo Cup semi-final at Villa on January 28. Over recent weeks, Ndidi has been the subject of a lot of speculation, as several big clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, etc, have all been linked with him.
