Senate minority leader Senator Abaribe calls on Buhari to resign over his failings on security

SENATE minority leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign because he has failed Nigerians particularly on the key issue of security highlighted by his inability to defeat terrorist sect Boko Haram.

Speaking today while contributing to a motion sponsored by the Senate leader, Yahaya Abdullahi on national security Senator Abaribe said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government has failed Nigerians. According to the senator who represents Abia-South Senatorial District, President Buhari has been lying to Nigerians that Boko Haram has been defeated.

Earlier this week, President Buhari said he was surprised Boko Haram has not been defeated after it emerged that the sect is still very much alive and carrying out atrocities. Prior until now, the president had claimed the sect was technically finished, prompting Senator Abaribe to claim that the APC government has been surviving on propaganda while Nigerians who elected them into power have been suffocating and under siege.

Senator Abaribe said: “Those who live on propaganda shall die by propaganda. Defeat is staring us on the face.

“Nigerians did not elect the chief of staff, Nigerians did not elect heads of security, Nigerians elected President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and in 2019. As it is, we are facing the head of the Nigerian government and this is President Buhari. He should resign with immediate effect. ”

While he was speaking, however, Senator Abaribe was stopped by the senate president, Senator Ahmed Lawan, who cautioned against the politicisation of the matter under discussion. He pointed out that this was a security matter being debated and the minority leader should not cloud it a party political broadcast.
