Former emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi praises mayor of Brent for his work with the less privileged

FORMER Emir of Kano and one-time Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Alhaji Lamido Sanusi paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of the London Borough of Brent Councillor Ernest Ezeajughi earlier this week to commend him for his charitable work.

In September last year, Nigerian-born scientist Councillor Ezeajughi was elected to serve as the mayor of Brent for another year following the first ever virtual annual general meeting (AGM) of the council brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Councillor Ezeajughi was first elected mayor in 2019 and has gone about discharging his duties with gusto, particularly his pet charities the Sickle Cell Society and the Jason Roberts Foundation.

First set up as a registered charity in Brent in 1979, the Sickle Cell Society works alongside health care professionals, parents, and people living with sickle cell to raise awareness of the disorder. On the other hand, the Jason Roberts Foundation is a registered charity working to support young people to celebrate diversity and promote respect across the UK.

Alhaji Sanusi and his wife Hajiya Sadiya Ado Bayero dropped in to see Councillor Ezeajughi, where he praised the mayor for his sterling work on behalf of the poor and less privileged. According to the former emir, Councillor Ezeajughi is a man of integrity for promoting peace and harmony in London.

"I want to use this great opportunity to wish him success in his future endeavours. May God continue to guide him throughout his service years and may he also reward him abundantly," Alhaji Sanusi added.

After gaining a Master of Science at Kings College London, Councillor Ezeajughi worked for several organisations, including Royal Mail, Public Health England and the Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Authority before becoming mayor. He was elected councillor for the Stonebridge ward in May 2014 and was re-elected in May 2018.
