10 ways in which we create our own problems and then start crying when the effects start biting

Ayo Akinfe

[1] We vote for candidates who drop money rather than those with clear manifestos

[2] We object to "outsiders" investing in our communities when if we embraced them it would create jobs

[3] When we are ill we go to churches and mosques rather than seek medical attention

[4] Rather than fill in forms and allow the system work, we look for shortcuts by ringing high-placed people we know to help

[5] Rather than appoint people on merit, we either appoint our kinsmen or stooges and yes men and women

[6] When our local politicians steal our commonwealth, rather than turn on them, we look for scapegoats among "outsiders"

[7] When in positions of authority, we are nepotistic when it comes to recruitment and appointments and then do not like it when there is an ethnic backlash

[8] We bribe teachers to pass our kids and then complain when they finish school and are not able to compete

[9] We lavish money of frivolities and enjoyment rather than invest in wealth creation

[10] When someone in authority we know is messing up, we refuse to tell them the truth. This sycophancy only makes them mess up more and more
