Fayose warns Tinubu that he faces the threat of MKO Abiola treatment at the hands of APC cabal

FORMER Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that he is likely to receive what he calls the MKO Abiola treatment at today's presidential primaries taking place in Abuja.

Later today, the APC will elect its 2023 presidential candidate at a special summit and it remains unclear who will emerge the winner. Among the leading contenders are Asiwaju Tinubu, vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi and Godswill Akpabio.

Warning about what lies ahead, Governor Fayose published an open letter in which he said Asiwaju Tinubu, might get the MKO Abiola treatment from the powerful cabal within the presidency. He warned Asiwaju Tinubu that he was swimming against the tide and should proceed with extreme caution.

Governor Fayose's letter read in part: “Going by the handwriting that is now clearly on the wall, if I may consider sir, I see you as one that may be swimming against the political tide of the cabal in your party. They are equally preparing for your actions and reactions and are fully set to contain same as they did to both Awolowo and Abiola.

“Unfortunately, your kingdom has been badly balkanised if what happened in Abeokuta is anything to go by. For reasons of not being misrepresented, I will like to stop here and allow you to take your decisions, good or bad as a wise full-grown adult whom you are.

“The book of Proverbs 22 verse 3 reads Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it but unthinking people will walk into it.”

Chief MKO Abiola was the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election but he was denied victory and the result was controversially annulled. He was eventually detained by the military government of General Sani Abacha the following year for declaring himself president and died four years later while in detention.
