Sheffield Wednesday hoping to tie Dele-Bashiru down to a new long term contract

ENGLISH League One side Sheffield Wednesday are confident that former Flying Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will sign a new contract with them that will keep him at Hillsborough for the foreseeable future.

Currently sitting in third place in League One, Wednesday are hoping to gain promotion back to the English Championship this season and from there possibly push for a return to the Premier League where they once played. Manager Darren Moore is confident that Dele-Bashiru will put pen to paper on a new contract soon, so the club can focus on the job at hand.

A Manchester City academy product, Dele-Bashiru has entered the final year of his contract with Sheffield Wednesday and has been linked with several clubs higher up the football pyramid. He is currently having a tremendous season for the Owls, scoring a career-high five goals from 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

An energetic box-to-box midfielder, he shone like a thousand stars last season, making 25 appearances combined in the League One and the playoffs as Wednesday narrowly missed promotion back to the Championship. Moore has revealed that Dele-Bashiru is happy at Sheffield Wednesday but a new deal has to be right for all parties.

Mr Moore said: "Myself and the staff are working extremely hard with him. When I look at his game from last year to where it is now, he has improved massively. That is work on the training ground. It is breaking down an individual's game and looking at what you can add to it.

"We have certainly added elements to his game with the ability that he has got and we will continue to do so. I am confident that he will sign and I know we are doing all that we can.

Fisayo, the younger brother of former Nigeria U23 international and Watford midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru, was called up to a Flying Eagles training camp in Germany before the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland. Only just 21, the Nigerian Football Federation will be eyeing him as a long term Super Eagles prospect.
