Shock English Premier League leaders Arsenal join the race to sign Samuel Chukwueze

ENGLISH Premier League surprise leaders Arsenal have joined the race to sign Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze who has once again become highly sought-after following the arrival of his former boss Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

Chukwueze, 23, is an exciting young winger who came through the Villarreal youth team and has already made 24 international caps. Former Villarreal manager Mr Emery, has just been appointed as the Villa manager and has made signing Chukwueze one of his main priorities as he seeks to strengthen his squad.

Since breaking into the Villarreal team, Chukwueze has spent the majority of his career playing on the right wing but he has struggled to score goals consistently at the top level. Despite this, however, several of Europe's top clubs are still looking at him, with the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Everton all in the race to secure his signature.

Arsenal do not have a lot of backup for Bukayo Saka on the right-hand side, except for the inexperienced Marquinhos. So, bringing in a player of Chukwueke’s calibre could be a smart move, possibly allowing Marquinhos to be sent out on loan. However, his lack of goals could be a concern to Mikel Arteta, who relies on players all over the pitch to contribute, with Gabriel Jesus not a natural goalscoring striker.
