Buhari congratulates eight Nigerians elected into office during US mid-term elections

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has joined the ranks of those congratulating the eight Nigerian-Americans just elected into the US Congress on the platforms of the Democratic and Republican parties during the recent mid-term elections.

 

In the elections that just held this week, in Georgia State, Segun Adeyina, Gabe Okoye, Solomon Adesanya, Tish Naghise, and Phil Olaleye won their legislative seats as state representatives in their districts. Similarly, Carol Kazeem won the Pennsylvania State representative in District 159, Esther Agbaje was re-elected as Minnesota State representative in District 59B, while Dr Oye Owolewa was re-elected to the US House of Representatives as the shadow representative for Washington DC.

 

Femi Adesina, President Buhari's spokesman, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari extends the warmest congratulations to eight Nigerian-Americans on their victory in the US midterm elections. In prayerful wishes for a successful tenure in office, President Buhari thanks them for their invaluable support and partnerships, over the years, with groups affiliated with the ideals and objectives of Nigerians in diaspora associations in the United States.

 

“Restating his unflinching support for every Nigerian excelling at home and abroad, President Buhari believes that compatriots who succeed in good causes are assets to the nation and the continent. He notes that their contributions will always be remembered and celebrated.”

 

Similarly, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has applauded the victories. She said she was elated by this development and congratulates each of them, noting with nostalgia that these  Nigerians have brought not only fame to themselves but have used their God given talents, skills, hard work and a resilient spirit to shore up the image of the country.

 

In addition, Hon Dabiri-Erewa also  congratulated them wishing them more wisdom and

knowledge in the discharge of their duties. She also congratulated the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee, a diaspora professional organisation in the US that collectively mobilises support for Nigerian Americans involved in politics and public service.
