YORUBA Nation agitator Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has assured his followers that the push for the actualisation of Oodua Republic was still on course and he will soon return to Nigeria to help realise the dream.
On July 1 last year, Mr Igboho fled after his Ibadan home was raided by Nigerian security forces who killed two of his aides and arrested a further 13. Mr Igboho subsequently turned up in Benin Republic but was arrested at Cotonou airport while he was trying to board a plane to Germany.
Since then, the matter has been in court as the Beninoise authorities have charged Mr Igboho with several immigration offences but the Nigerian government wants him deported. However, the Nigerian government has been unable to field any specific criminal charges against Mr Igboho, putting the Beninoise authorities in a difficult position.
In August, Mr Igboho was released from custody and handed over to Professor Banji Akintoye the president of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide. Yesterday, speaking for the first time since then via Zoom at the annual post-humous birthday seminar of Bishop Ajayi Crowther, Mr Igboho promised to return to Nigeria soon
Mr Igboho said: “I thank you all for your support since the inception of this just cause and by God’s grace, the Fulani’s herdsmen activities against our people will end in our land. The Yoruba nation will soon be achieved and it will be better than all the nations in the world.
“My message to Yoruba people worldwide, who are passionate about the country of their own is not to lose hope. I am more than convinced that we are on our way to freedom. Our agitation is an idea whose time has come. I will come back to Yorubaland soon.”
