ENGLISH Premier League giants Liverpool are planning to launch a January bid for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze in a move that could lead to a two-way bidding war for the Super Eagles star between the Merseyside giants and Arsenal.
Chukwueze, 23, is one of the highly-rated wide players in Spain's La Liga and is currently highly sought after across Europe. A product of the Villarreal youth academy, Chukwueze has had an impressive time with the Yellow Submarines but he will want to go forward in his career, so a move may be on the cards.
In 21 games for the La Liga side this season, Chukwueze has scored five goals and provided six assists across all competitions. He was a key player for Unai Emery’s side until the manager left for Aston Villa.
Now, with Quique Setien at the helm, it remains to be seen how the former Barcelona manager uses the Nigerian winger. If Chukwueze indeed leaves Villarreal, a number of clubs could be interested in the talented player, with Arsenal and Liverpool mentioned as prominent interests but other clubs could join the race.
Arsenal may be an ideal option for Chukwueze and considering how well the Gunners are performing, he is likely to get Champions League football next season as well. If Liverpool really think they need Chukwueze, then they will need to have a plan for him, as it is not yet certain how the club will feature him alongside Salah, Diaz, and Jota.
