LEON Balogun could make a shock return to Glasgow Rangers during the forthcoming January transfer window following the appointment of Michael Beale as the new manager of the Scottish giants.
Balogun, 34, left Glasgow in June at the end of his two year deal during which time he helped Rangers win the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup. He subsequently completed a switch to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on free transfer, signing a one year deal with the London clubside.
However, he could be making a rapid return back up north, as Mr Beale, a former Rangers assistant manager who was head coach at QPR, is now at the helm of affairs in Glasgow. Mr Beale just been appointed as the Glasgow Rangers manager following the dismissal of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Rangers did not give Balogun a new deal in the summer but now, Mr Beale, who he worked with at QPR may chose to do so. Balogun is out of contract in the summer, meaning he is free to speak to clubs about a pre-contract agreement in January.
Former Rangers icon Ally McCoist said: “A lot of agreements need to fall into place but Balogun could certainly be a handy addition for Rangers again given their current defensive injury problems."
Balogun scored his first goal for QPR on October 22, which proved to be the winner against his former club Wigan Athletic. He has been in fine form, making 12 appearances and contributing one assist and could return to the Scottish Premiership League now that Mr Beale has been confirmed as the Rangers new head coach.
