ENGLISH Premier League giants Aston Villa are closely monitoring their Nigeria-eligible teenager Tim Iroegbunam currently on loan to Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) ahead of the January transfer window with a view to recalling him.
Iroegbunam, 19, a 2022 European U19 champion, is a Villa midfielder currently out on loan to Villa so he can play on a regular basis. So far, the plan has worked out well for all the parties, with the central midfielder involved in every single game played by the Hoops since his loan move with the exception of the 2-0 loss at Coventry just before the World Cup break.
According to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa want Iroegbunam to maintain his regular run of match minutes in the Championship but he could be recalled next month if one of their first team midfielders suffers an injury before the close of the January transfer window. Villa negotiated a recall clause in the deal taking Iroegbunam to QPR and can decide to end his stay in London by activating the clause next month.
Former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was initially reluctant to let Iroegbunam depart during the summer transfer window but eventually gave the green light to the loan move. Iroegbunam has appeared in four first team matches for Aston Villa, logging 97 minutes in the Premier League in total.
