NIGERIAN graduates have dominated the convocation ceremony at the Department of Nursing Health and Well Being of the University of Hertfordshire emerging as the largest group of students bagging degrees.
At the university's graduation ceremony which took place on Wednesday this week, graduates in the department, which is in the School of Health and Social Work were predominantly Nigerian. This is believed to have happened because the university is one of the cheapest in the UK with its tuition fees being less than £10,000 per year for home students and £14,000 for international students.
This affordability makes the university a coveted institution for many Nigerians seeking to study abroad. According to the 2022 Guardian University Guide, the University of Hertfordshire is ranked 90 among universities in the UK, with Oxford University taking the first spot.
Formerly known as Hatfield Polytechnic, the institution was upgraded into a university in 1992 and subsequently renamed the University of Hertfordshire. In May, Nigerians also dominated the list of graduates from the law department at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.
Globally, Nigerians are renown for loving education and for being among the best educated people on earth. With the Nigerian educational sector currently in crisis, more and more of its students are having to study abroad.
