FORMER Golden Eaglet Malcolm Ebiowei is on the verge of joining English Championship side Swansea City on loan from Premier League club Crystal Palace during the forthcoming January transfer window.
In the summer, Ebiowei, 19, put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Palace that will see him committed to Selhurst Park until 2027. However, the winger has since struggled to find playing time with the Eagles, so the club want to send him out on loan and Swansea are hoping to beat Hull City to his signature.
Ebiowei, has no problems making the Palace match day squad, having received call-ups for all the matches played this season but on the flip side he has logged only 57 minutes of playing time, spread across five matches. He made his club debut in the opening match of the 2022/23 season coming on as an 86th-minute substitute for Eberechi Eze but since then, his appearances have been sporadic.
Swansea City have already signed a winger of Nigerian descent from a Premier League club this season, bringing in exciting youngster Armstrong Okoflex on loan from West Ham United. Manchester City academy product Nathanael Ogbeta and Michael Obafemi already play for Swansea City's first team.
Born to Nigerian parents in Holland, Ebiowei in has represented the Netherlands and England at youth international levels in the past. He featured in two under-15 games for the Netherlands against Italy and one for the England under-16s against Turkey and then proceeded to make England U20 debut on September 21 this year as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Chile.
