CHELSEA are to hold talks with English Championship side Huddersfield Town over the fate on of-loan Nigeria-eligible midfielder Faustino Anjorin after he sustained another injury that will keep him out of action for the time being.
Anjorin, 21, is a Chelsea player currently on loan to Huddersfield where he spent the second half of the 2021/22 season. Chelsea were hoping that the player could soon return to them but of late, he keeps picking up injuries and as a result,. the two clubs are set to hold talks about the player's future.
Having recovered from a bout of glandular fever, Anjorin was included in Huddersfield Town's training camp squad and featured in a friendly against Olympiakos. However, the England youth international hurt his ankle in training on the eve of the Terriers' Championship match with Sheffield United, leading to his omission from the matchday squad.
He has successfully undergone surgery on the ankle injury he sustained and is out for the foreseeable future. Anjorin has missed 12 consecutive games played by the Terriers in the Championship and has yet to play a competitive match under new manager Mark Fotheringham.
Mr Fotheringham said: "Unfortunately Tino Anjorin had an injury in the build-up to a training session last Friday. We were planning on starting him but he's suffered a quite really bad ankle injury. We're devastated for him because he'd worked so hard to come back.
"We'll assess it now with Chelsea and Leigh Bromby will have conversations about what we're going to do but first and foremost we're just concerned for Tino's welfare because I know he'll be really low. He's been and had surgery and Leigh will have dialogue with Chelsea but he's a player we think the world of and I know he's a real fan's favourite too. We'll support him as much as we can."
In January 2022, Anjorin was recovering from injury when his loan spell at Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow was cut short by another setback. Anjorin is eligible to play for England and Nigeria but between 2018 and 2019, he represented England at under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels.
