NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) officials are considering inviting Cardiff City striker Kion Etete to the Olympic Eagles squad as part of plan to tie him down given his eligibility to play for England too.
Etete, 21, joined Cardiff at the start of the season, signing a three year deal with the Bluebirds after arriving from Tottenham Hotspur. He has since gone on to feature in 12 games for the English Championship side and has now added a goal to the repertoire, scoring the opener against Blackpool in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
In what was his full debut after 11 games off the bench, Etete found the net after lobbing the goalkeeper in the 36th minute. This was his first competitive goal for the club, prompting the NFF to consider handing him an invitation to the Olympic Eagles.
Etete said: "I think we had enough chances in the game to win it and put it to bed in the first half especially, which is something that we need to work on in the second half of the season. I had a few cameos earlier this season, kind of just finding my feet and the belief from the Gaffer has really pushed my confidence up from where I was before.
Before Saturday's game, had been was in action for 212 minutes spread across 12 games in all competitions before netting his first goal for Cardiff City. A striker with physical attributes, Etete has now scored in the Championship, League One and League Two.
