Brentford look to bring Celtic teenage centreback Bosun Lawal to the English Premier League

ENGLISH Premier league side Brentford are interested in signing Glasgow Celtic's Nigeria-eligible central defender Bosun Lawal during the forthcoming January transfer window as part of a squad strengthening exercise.

Lawal, 19, is a central defender who has already featured for the Republic of Ireland at U21 level but could play for the Super Eagles due to his origin. Brentford, currently sitting bang in the middle of the English Premier League table, are keeping tabs on the versatile player, who is also on the radar of Italian sides Pisa and Verona.

Since he joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 after rejecting a professional contract at Watford, where he was named Academy Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season, Lawal, has been a key player for Celtic B team this season. He scored five goals in the Lowland League and Challenge Cup despite being a defensive-minded player, leading to his elevation to the first team.

Lawal was invited to train with Celtic's first team during their pre-season preparations and was named in the travelling squad to Australia for the Sydney Super Cup. His first squad involvement in a competitive game for the senior side was against Aberdeen in a Premiership match last weekend where he was a non-playing substitute.

However, he has caught the eye and Brentford are looking to bring him to the English Premier League for the second of the season. Last year, Brentford signed two exciting teenagers of Nigerian descent in Daniel Oyegoke and Val Adedokun from Arsenal and Dundalk respectively and then snapped up Michael Olakigbe from Fulham this summer.
