ENGLISH Premier League giants West Ham are considering making a January transfer bid for Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina in a bid to revive their flagging season which has become derailed due to multiple injuries.
West Ham started the season brightly but currently sit 16th in the 20 team table and manager David Moyes knows he needs reinforcements ahead of the crucial second half of the season. At the moment, West Ham have defensive problems at fullback with Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson either struggling with form, consistency, or having injuries.
Last summer, the Hammers made a late move for Aina but they ultimately failed in that effort as his Italian club Torino refused to part with the defender. Now, West Ham are expected to make another attempt to sign the fullback during the forthcoming January transfer window which opens at the end of the month.
A veteran of two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and 93 Serie A games, Aina brings versatility to the game and is able to function effectively at both right and left back. West Ham are not expected to make several significant purchases in January following their huge outlay on new signings in the summer but Aina is considered one player the club is eyeing.
Aina, 26, in into the last year of his Torino contract and could leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. Player and club are currently discussing a new deal to extend his stay beyond next summer.
