Championship side Sheffield United recall Nigeria-eligible striker as they push for Premier League return

ENGLISH Championship side Sheffield United have recalled Nigeria-eligible striker William Osula from his loan spell at League One club Derby County as they step up their push for promotion to the Premier League.

Osula, 19, a Danish youth international, joined Derby County on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day in the summer but the agreement taking him to the League One club had a recall clause. Over the last 24 hours, Sheffield United has confirmed that it has informed Derby County that they have exercised the opportunity to take their player back to Bramall Lane in January.

Sheffield United are currently sitting second in the English Championship table, some nine points clear of Blackburn Rovers in third place. Hopeful of making a return to the top flight at the end of the season, Sheffield United have decided to pull out all the stops and bring back their talented players sent out on loan.

During his loan spell at Derby, Osula appeared in 21 official games at Pride Park Stadium, scoring five goals including a brace against Torquay United in the FA Cup. He made his first team debut for Sheffield United against Blackpool in March 2022 and went on to play four more matches in the Championship before the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

Osula joined Sheffield United in 2018 after playing for the youth team of Danish giants FC Copenhagen. He is cup-tied in the FA Cup having played in three matches this season for the Rams, so is ineligible to suit up for Sheffield United in their third round tie at Millwall.
