ALEX Iwobi's father has dismissed fears that his son will face a lengthy time on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury yesterday at Old Trafford when Everton faced Manchester United pointing out that he should only be out for about two weeks.
During yesterday's FA Cup tie, Iwobi was stretchered off early in the second half after being on the end of a crunching tackle from Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia while attempting to sprint through a counter-attack. Iwobi had to be replaced immediately and it was feared that the damage may have been severe but his dad Chuka Iwobi, has allayed any such fears.
According to Mr Iwobi Snr, the results of a scan show that his son should recover from the ankle injury in a couple of weeks. He disclosed that Alex, 26, will be sidelined for approximately two weeks.
Mr Iwobi added: “Results of the scan are now out and it’s not as bad as previously thought. Alex will be out for approximately two weeks. Thanks for all your support."
Iwobi will thus miss Everton's game when they host Southampton and when they visit West Ham at the London stadium. Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro said he also wishes that the injury is not a big one as his team will resume the qualification campaign for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in March.
Iwobi screamed in pain as he hit the deck after the tackle and was immediately attended to by Everton's medical team, while his concerned teammates gathered around him. it had been feared that he had done his ankle ligaments but thankfully, the damage is not that bad.
