Peter Obi promises to retire Tinubu and Atiku and pay them redundancy package if elected president

FORMER Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has promised to retire his two main opponents in next month's elections from politics with a handsome  redundancy package if he wins because they are too elderly.

Next month, Nigerians go to the polls to elect a new president, state governors, members of the National Assembly and the members of the 36 state houses of assemblies. Among the major frontrunners in the presidential elections are Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Governor Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party.

Former vice president Alhaji Abubakar is 75, while ex-Lagos State governor Tinubu is 70 officially.  Speaking in Asaba, the Delta State capital on a campaign tour, Governor Obi said he would retire both Asiwaju Tinubu and Alhaji Abubakar and pay them compensation if elected president.

He stressed that the age differences of his counterparts would lead to their retirement if elected president. According to Governor Obi, it is the turn of the youths to rule Nigeria and retire old politicians who have been at the helm of the country’s affairs.

Governor Obi said: “If you put my age and Datti’s age and divide it into two, we are in our fifties. The other people, if you put their own, they are in their seventies. You know that there is a retirement age.

“The PDP chairman is 70 years and the APC chairman is 70 years, while the Labour Party chairman is 52 years old. So it is our turn. We will retire them, we will pay them compensation.”

He added that the presidency of Nigeria is not a turn-by-turn arrangement but added that if it was, it would be his turn to become president. According to the former Anambra State governor, Nigerians should hold him responsible if he fails in security and economy if elected and also promised to end strikes in the education sector if elected.

Governor Obi added: “Somebody said it is his turn to be president, I want to tell you that the president is not turn by turn. If it is turn by turn, it is supposed to be my turn but we are not using turn by turn. It is the turn of Nigerians to be president especially those full of energy.”

“Hold me responsible if we failed you in the area of security, economy. We will make the country work again.”
