CHELSEA manager Graham Potter is considering making a bid for PSV Eindhoven's Nigeria-eligible winger Noni Madueke before the close of the January transfer window in a bid to end his side's incessant slide down the league table.
Considered one of the contenders for the English Premier league title at the start of the season, Chelsea are currently sitting in 10th place, having scored just 20 goals, compared with the 40 and 45 of Arsenal and Manchester City respectively at the tip of the table. Aware of the fact that goal scoring is a major problem, Mr Potter is looking to sign a major forward during the current transfer window.
Madueke, 20, is an England U-21 international who has been impressive since joining the Dutch giants from the Tottenham Academy in 2018. Leicester stepped up interest in him last season after they met PSV in the Europa League and were impressed with him but so too were other teams like Leeds and Spurs.
Chelsea are currently enduring one of their worst runs of form for years, losing six of their last nine matches in all competitions. So far, they have only won two of their last nine matches in all competitions, leading to the side being knocked out of both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
To address the rot, the club has agreed to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. to firm this up further, Chelsea have contact with PSV for Madueke, who has established himself as an outstanding young player contributing 11 goals and nine assists on 50 appearances in the Dutch league.
One of PSV’s best players since breaking into the first team in 2020, the Dutch club has reportedly valued the youngster at £40m. A confident player who in an interview likened his style of play to that of Lionel Messi, Madueke suffered a tough 2021/22 season spending most of the year out with injury before he bounced back.
