NIGERIAN teenage striker Tobi Adeyemo made it a goalscoring home debut for Watford over the weekend when he came off the bench in the second half in a league match against Blackpool and scored the opener in a 2-0 victory.
In the English Championship league game, Adeyemo, 17, came off the bench to replace Vakoun Issouf and broke the deadlock, pouncing on the rebound and firing home in the 72nd minute. His opening goal enabled Watford to secure a 2-0 win over Blackpool in the Championship clash at Vicarage Road.
This was Adeyemo's second senior appearance for the Hornets and it came a week after he featured as a substitute for the last 15 minutes of a 2-0 loss to Reading in the Emirates FA Cup. He admitted that he was awestruck after opening the scoring for Watford and revealed the reason behind his goal celebration.
Adeyemo said: "Slaven Bilić told me that I was here for a reason and that he wanted me to go out there and show what I can do. I just want to thank Slaven so much for giving me the opportunity. I’m just so grateful."
After scoring, he ran over to celebrate with his academy teammate Jack Grieves, who also made his home debut for the Hornets against Blackpool. He added: "The ball came out after the Blackpool goalkeeper parried it and I said to myself ‘I’m going to get my foot on this, I’m going to score here’.
"When the ball went in the back of the net I couldn’t believe it. I literally put my hands on my head and I was in shock, honestly. I couldn’t believe it."
