Michael Obafemi completes loan switch to Burnley with the option of a permanent move

REPUBLIC of Ireland striker Michael Obafemi has completed his loan switch to English Championship side Burnley until the end of the season with an option to make the move permanent this summer.

Obafemi, 23, has recently joined Championship leaders Burnley from Swansea City, with an option to make the move permanent this summer. Burnley have a 17-point lead in the automatic places with a game in hand  and have made Obafemi their fourth signing this month in their bid to seal a swift return to the top flight.

Born in Dublin to Nigerian parents, Obafemi was eligible to represent England, Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland but on November 2018 he committed to the Ireland. On June 11 2022, he made his first international start at senior level, in a Uefa Nations League match against Scotland, sealing his international future.

With his international career now sorted out, Obafemi is hoping to return to the Premier League with Burnley. Today, he joined Burnley on loan for the remainder of the season, with the option to make the transfer permanent tag the end of the season

Obafemi said: “I’m glad to be here. It’s been a busy few days but I am just glad that it’s finally done now.

“When I first heard of Burnley’s interest in the summer I was adamant to come here. Obviously it didn’t happen then but now I’m here and I just can’t wait to play in the Claret and Blue.”
