NIGERIA'S Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) has been refrained from using the services of the Lagos Parks and Garages agency run by Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo during the forthcoming elections.
Mr Akinsanya, had secured a contract with Inec to play a critical role in the upcoming general elections, involving him supplying election materials across Lagos State. Widespread criticism followed the announcement of the deal earlier this month but Inec's resident electoral commission Segun Agbaje shrugged off calls to rescind the decision.
This prompted Labour Party leaders, led by their presidential candidate Peter Obi, to file a law suit on the matter. Today, ruling on the case, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted an order restraining Inec from engaging, using, or further dealing with MC Oluomo in the distribution of election materials and ad-hoc staff for the forthcoming polls in the state.
Today's injunction was granted following an application filed by the Labour Party and its gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. With this ruling, MC Oluomo, the chairman of Lagos Parks and Garages, is now barred from having anything to do with the elections.
One of the big question marks surrounding MC Oluomo is that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress and to close to its presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. This questions his impartiality.
