HUDDERSFIELD Town's Nigeria-eligible defender Mustapha Olagunju returned to action during the week in a Central League game on Tuesday afternoon ending a 20-month hiatus during which he was out with injury.
Olagunju, 21, who has been out injured for the past season-and-a-half made his comeback as Huddersfield Town B were beaten 1-0 by Fleetwood Town in a Central League game on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the game against Fleetwood Town, Olagunju had not figured for the Terriers due to a major knee injury he sustained in July 2021.
He took to the pitch for the last 20 minutes against Fleetwood Town and he came through the game unscathed. Olagunju, who signed his first professional contract at Huddersfield Town in August 2019, made his senior debut in an Emirates FA Cup third round match against Plymouth in January 2021.
Olagunju said: "It was a good 20 minutes out there, it might just be a starting point but it was good to be back out with the lads. Preparing for today’s game was tough mentally and physically, especially after being out for the last 20 months but it was good to be back in the game again."
He revealed that he found out he was going to be involved in some capacity against Fleetwood Town on Monday. Olagunju said he hopes maybe next time he will play another 20 minutes and then maybe up to half an hour or even 45 minutes in the next game after that as he seeks to return to full fitness.
