Chimaroke Nnamani urges Ndigbo to support the incoming Tinubu administration

FORMER Enugu State governor Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has urged Nigerians of Igbo extraction to support the incoming administration of president-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and shun calls to sabotage the government.

On Saturday February 25, Nigerians went to the polls to elect a new president and the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) subsequently declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner. Among the other main gladiators in the contest were Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Peter Obi of the Labour Party and former Kano State governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

Inec chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served as the returning officer for the presidential election, declared Asiwaju Tinubu the victor of the contest with 8,794,726 votes, defeating Alhaji Abubakar of the PDP, who came second with 6,984,520 votes and Governor Obi who came third with 6,101,533 votes. However, the PDP and Labour Party have refused to accept the results.

Senator Nnamani, who up until the last election was elected to represent Enugu East West Senatorial District, served as governor between 1999 and 2007. Responding to the calls for the elections to be annulled, Senator Nnamani cautioned that antagonism to the Tinubu presidency would not yield the needed dividend of democracy.

He said: “Tinubu has won the election. If anybody has any reason to think otherwise, the courts are there to adjudicate. The courts are there as part of the electioneering process. What I expect our people to do is to align with the incoming administration, negotiate like others for national resources and political largesse for the benefit of our citizens”.

He added that he believes that a Tinubu administration will be fair, just and equitable in the allocation of resources to every part of Nigeria. Senator Nnamani said that Asiwaju Tinubu has more than enough experience to run the affairs of Nigeria in a manner that will give all sections of Nigeria a sense of belonging.
