Deputy senate president Omo-Agege reportedly expelled from APC by Delta State chapter

MEMBERS of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have allegedly expelled the deputy senate president Senator  Ovie Omo-Agege claiming he has been engaged in anti-party activities and other unnamed offences.

Senator Omo-Agege, Nigeria's number five citizen under the constitution had run for Delta State governor on the APC platform during the recent gubernatorial elections. However, earlier the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) declared Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the contest.

Monday Udoh-Tom, Inec's resident electoral commissioner, declared that governor-elect Oborevwori won 21 out of the 25 local government areas collated in Delta State. Mr Oborevwori polled 360,234 votes, while Senator Omo-Agege polled 240,229 and the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate Chief Great Ogboru, came third with 11,029 votes.

In a significant addition his woes, Senator Omo-Agege has now been expelled from the party after being sent a letter to that effect that was dated March 31. Signed by the state APC chairman Ulebor Isaac, the secretary Inana Michael and 23 others, the letter said Senator Omo-Agege is no longer a member of the party in the Orogun ward and in the Ughelli North Local Government Area chapter.

It read: “The state executive committee of All Progressives Congress, Delta State in a meeting held on the 31st March, 2023 at the state secretariat, Asaba, after due deliberation of the notice of resolution of expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as a member of the party by the executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North Local Government Area chapter dated 20th March, 2023. In accordance to the provision of Article 21.2 (1)(II)(VII) 21.3 and 21.5(g) of the constitution 2022 (as amended) we unanimously resolved and adopted the expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as a member of the party.

“Consequently Senator Ovie Omo-Agege hereby stands expelled as a member of the party with immediate effect for various offences committed and acts of anti-party activities and gross misconduct that has brought shame and ridicule to the image of the party in the state which affected the party in the just concluded elections.”

Senator Omo-Agege had been accused by a chieftain of the party for not working hard in the state to garner votes for the president-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. However, in a swift reaction, the Delta State APC publicity secretary, Imma Niboro, described the expulsion as fake, adding that there is no faction in the party in the state.

He added: “This is fake, you know this is not the executive committee of the state chapter. No one knows who these people are. There are no factions in Delta APC.”

Also, in the aftermath of the March 18, governorship and state assembly elections, an indefinite suspension was slammed on the current chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission board Lauretta Onochei. She was suspended by her ward executive committee in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
