ARSENAL'S teenage striker Joel Ideho has been invited to the Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja ahead of the 2023 U20 World Cup in Argentina with the real possibility that he may make the squad for the tournament.
Ideho, 19, is a former Netherlands youth international in his third season at Arsenal after joining the north London side from Ajax Amsterdam. An energetic and skilful forward capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, Ideho has featured in 60 matches across various competitions this season, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
He has played as a left winger in 20 matches, a right winger in eight, an attacking midfielder in two, a centre-forward in one game and a second striker in one match. Ideho’s stats in the Premier League Two youth competition include 27 appearances, two goals, three assists, and two yellow cards in 1,170 minutes played.
In the U18 Premier League, he has made 13 appearances, scored five goals, provided three assists and played 885 minutes. He also played 10 games in the EFL Trophy, scoring one goal and providing one assist in 337 minutes.
Ideho will join other foreign-based players, including Inter Milan midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and AC Milan wonderkid Victor Eletu in the Flying Eagles camp. Ideho’s versatility, pace and technical ability make him an exciting prospect to watch and he will hope to impress the coaches during the training camp and secure a spot in the final squad for the U20 World Cup.
