Buhari re-appoints Abike Dabiri-Erewa as Nigerians in Diaspora Commission chair

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has re-appointed Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa as the chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (Nidcom) for a second term and written to the senate asking it to confirm the appointment.

Originally appointed in November 2018 for a four-year term, Hon Dabiri-Erewa has been involved in diaspora matters for the last 20 or so years. She is a former senior special adviser to the president on foreign  and diaspora affairs and before that served as chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs.

Hon Dabiri-Erewa served in the House of Representatives as the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State from 2003 to 2015. While she was in the National Assembly, she sponsored a bill demanding that diasporans be given the right to vote but the motion was defeated on the floor of the House.

Her reappointment was contained in a letter written by President Buhari, urging the Senate to confirm her. In a separate letter to the senate, the president also requested confirmation of the appointment of six federal commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, who are Ayogu Eze, Peter Okpara, Hauwa Aliyu, Rajiya Ayuba, Kolawole Adebola and Ismailia Agaka.
