Nigerian youngster Derrick Abu set make a move across town from Chelsea to Palace

ENGLISH Premier League side Crystal Palace have taken German-born Nigerian right-back Derrick Abu on trial from London rivals Chelsea with a view to signing him as a free agent at the end of the season.

Abu, 19, has entered the last two months of his contract with Chelsea and no talks have taken place between him and the management of the club over the extension of his stay at Stamford Bridge. He has subsequently spent the last two weeks training with Crystal Palace's development squad as he bids to bag himself a deal.

In a sure sign that he is appreciated at Palace, Abu has been included in the matchday squad in the last games played by the Eagles in the Premier League Two against Wolverhampton  Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers. He has improved his chances of getting a deal after starring for Crystal Palace as they defeated Valencia 5-3 on penalties to reach the final of the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday.

During that match, Crystal Palace went in front in the 18th minute when Jadan Raymond slotted home from close range after Abu put a ball into the box. He then stepped up to win the game for Palace when he converted Crystal Palace's last kick in the shootout.

Abu has played non-stop at Chelsea since U11 level after joining them from a grassroots club. However, it appears that he will make a move across town to sign for Palace as from next season where he will join the likes of Ebere Eze and Michael Olise.
