Leon Balogun and three other Nigerians to be released by QPR at the end of the season

LEON Balogun is one of four players of Nigerian extraction that English Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) have announced they will be releasing at the end of the current season following the expiration of their contracts with the club.

At the end of June, Balogun's contract with QPR will expire and the Hoops have opted not to grant him an extension. Likewise, Kaduna-born striker Ody Alfa, Tottenham Hotspur academy product Luke Amos and former Republic of Ireland youth international Olamide Shodipo are all to be  released by QPR next month.

Balogun, 34, is just recovering from injury and has been invited back for pre-season training preparations as part of his recovery programme.  Over the course of the season, he appeared in 16 official matches for QPR, scoring one goal which came against his former employers Wigan Athletic.

Amos for his part joined QPR initially on loan in the summer 2019 before inking a full deal the following season and went on to make 95 appearances, scoring eight goals. Alfa on the other hand enjoyed loan spells at Atlético Baleares, Billericay Town, Maidenhead United, Dartford, Aldershot Town and Chelmsford City  as a QPR player.

Shodipo joined QPR as a schoolboy, rising through the ranks before making his first team debut in a Championship clash with Leeds United on the opening day of the 2016/17 campaign. Overall, the winger is credited with 44 appearances across all competitions for the Hoops.
