SECESSIONIST group the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) has denied reports that its members burnt down the house of the late Ohanaeze Ndigbo president Professor George Obiozor over their political differences.
Earlier this week, Ogene Okeke, the Ohaneze Ndigbo vice president, accused Ipob members of burning down the country home of their late leader. Ipob spokesman Emma Powerful, has however, denied this, saying its members are not terrorists or hoodlums, adding that the group never had any confrontation with Professor Obiozor when he was alive, so had no cause to attack his property.
Mr Powerful said: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu take great exception to the unguarded and concocted statement credited to one old man claiming to be speaking for the Ohaneze Ndigbo as their vice president-general. First and foremost, Ipob members are neither hoodlums nor terrorists and do not burn people’s houses or attack Biafrans, even at the highest level of provocation.
“Ipob didn’t burn Late Professor Obiozor’s country home and late Professor Obiozor's family has ever accused Ipob of those atrocities. Ipob and Eastern Security Network operatives were never in any confrontation with the late Professor George Obiozor.
“We want to ask Ogene Okeke what was his relationship with Professor George Obiozor before death struck him? This man was not in contact with Obiozor before he died."
In addition, Mr Powerful wondered why the disciplined Ipob members would burn down Professor Obiozor’s house when he never had any confrontation with the group. He charged Mr Ogene to stop using Ipob’s name for his political business because such actions would come with its consequences.
