OLUWO of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has described the inauguration of Councillor Michael Situ as the mayor of Southwark in the UK yesterday as a great source of pride for his kingdom describing him as one of the result-oriented products of Iwoland.
Following in the footsteps of his later father, Councillor Situ took office yesterday in a ceremony at Southwark Cathedral that was attended by the likes of Harriet Harman and Simon Hughes. Also in attendance was Ambassador Alkali Abdulsalam, representing the Nigerian high commission, as were Ayo Akinfe and Olajumoke Ariyo, the chairman and vice chair of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk).
Councillor Situ's father, Tayo Situ came from Iwo originally and was a key member of the UK Iwo community association. Many leading figure of the Nigerian community in the UK subsequently came out to grace the occasion yesterday.
Oba Akanbi said: "I congratulate my son Michael Kayode Situ on his recent attainment. I extend the felicitation to his immediate family in Iwo and have no doubt in his ability to make us proud, even beyond his father Tayo Situ who passed away as the duly elected mayor in 2011.
“Michael Situ is a pride, resilient and result-oriented product of Iwo whose administrative prowess will add more value to Southwark. As you take up this assignment, I pray for a pearl of wisdom greater than that of Solomon to do better and wonderfully serve your municipal than your late father who was equally our pride.
"God will continue to guide and lead you through. Accept the assurance of my best wishes, always.”
