Newly-promoted Burnley look to bring Nigerian striking sensation Gift Orban to the Premier League

NEWLY-promoted English Premier League side Burnley are interested in signing Nigerian striking sensation Gift Orban during the forthcoming summer transfer window as the clubs looks to strengthen its squad ahead of life in the top flight.

Orban, 20, who joined Belgian side Gent from Norwegian outfit Stabaek during the January transfer window, went on a prolific goal run during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign. In total, Orban managed to score 21 goals in 20 appearances this season and has the ability to play in various positions across a front three.

His goals include a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Cercle Brugge and a first-half hat-trick in 4–1 away win over İstanbul Başakşehir in the Uefa Europa Conference League round 16. That continental hat-trick was scored within three minutes and 25 seconds, setting a new record for the fastest hat-trick in Uefa club competitions, breaking the previous record of six minutes and 12 seconds held by Mohammed Salah in the Champions League.

On 12 March, Orban scored four goals in a 6–2 away win over Zulte Waregem, which made him the first player of Gent to do so in the 21st century. His exploits have attracted the attention of several clubs across Europe, with the player expressing a desire to play for the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.

According to online portal RMC Sport, Burnley are said to be the latest club linked with a move for the emerging talent. Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad reported that Man United sent scouts to watch Gent striker Orban earlier this month but Gent will be expecting a big offer for their prize asset.

Burnley have just been promoted to the top flight of English football and know that to survive they will have to beef up their squad. Orban is seen as the kind of player who can get them the goals they require to survive in the English Premier League.
