Inec to organise House of Reps by-election in Surulere following the resignation of Gbajabiamila

NIGERIA's Independent National Electoral Committee (Inec) will be calling for a by-election into the Federal House of Representatives for the Surulere II Constituency of Lagos State following the resignation of Hon Femi Gbajabiamila from the National Assembly.

Hon Gbajabiamila, the former speaker of the House has just been appointed as the new chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu and subsequently resigned as a lawmaker earlier today. Following the resignation of Hon Gbajabiamila, the new speaker, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, has declared his old seat vacant.

After receiving the letter and reading it to members, Hon Abbas said: “We have today declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant following the resignation of Gbajabiamila."

In his letter, addressed to the speaker, Hon Gbajabiamila said that he would take up a new role as the chief of staff to the president. Hon Gbajabiamila commended the House and people of his federal constituency following his appointment, adding that serving the people of Surulere had been a great honour.
