NIGERIA-eligible fullback Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo will be leaving Southampton upon the expiry of his contract on June 30 this year following the club's relegation from the English Premier League and its decision to let several players go as a result.
Yesterday, Southampton announced its retained and released list of players following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season and has opted to let Otseh-Taiwo go. Eligible to play for both Nigeria and England, Otseh-Taiwo , 20, leaves Southampton after seven years of service to the club, having joined them as a schoolboy in 2016.
An overlapping fullback, he rose through the Southampton ranks before establishing himself in the B team. He is credited with 25 appearances for the Saints in the U18 Premier League and played in 37 games for the B team in the Premier League Two.
Otseh-Taiwo, who is the cousin of former Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, will, however, be leaving the St Mary's Stadium without making his professional debut. Compatriots Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu have presumably been retained by Southampton considering the fact that their names were left out of the released list.
Likewise, the same applies to England U20 winger of Nigerian descent, Sam Edozie and Princewill Ehibhatiomhan too. Aribo and Onuachu have three years left on their contracts, Edozie is tied to the club until June 30, 2027, while Ehibhatiomhan's deal runs out in 2025.
