Dessers turns down move to Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers opting to remain in Italy

SUPER Eagles winger Cyriel Dessers has turned down an offer to join Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers opting to remain in Italy with his relegated Serie A club Cremonese for the time being.

Rangers boss Michael Beale had been keen to sign Dessers as part of a rebuilding programme for next season when the Light Blues plan to challenge arch-rivals Celtic for the league title. With Alfredo Morelos departing the club on a free transfer after six years of topsy-turvy service, the Colombian has left a gaping hole in the striking options of the Ibrox club which Mr Beale has looked to rectify.

That has been done somewhat with the £3.5m capture of Sam Lammers from Atalanta  but the Glasgow club needs to augment this with more firepower in wide positions. However, Rangers' plans have been somewhat hit by Dessers  turning a move to Govan down, opting to either stay at Cremonese or move elsewhere for guaranteed starting time, despite potential European football on the table in Glasgow.

According to online football portal Calciomercato, Dessers has turned a move to the Scottish Premiership down with the striker preferring to stay in Italy. He is already attracting interest from other Italian clubs such as Torino, so is not desperate to move to Scotland.

Dessers finished last season with six goals and two assists, although he did score 20 goals in just 41 games for Dutch outfit Feyenoord during the previous campaign. His move to Italy did not lead to the expected explosion of form that Cremonese had been expecting and which several pundits predicted.
