SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is set to be offered a contract extension by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) that will keep him in place until the end of the next African Cup of Nations tournament taking place in January and February next year.
Mr Peseiro's contract had been due to end in June 2023 in line with the original plans for the Nations Cup. However, a combination of several past hosts not having their facilities ready and the Coronavirus pandemic affected plans, so the continental tournament will now take place in Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11 2024.
To ensure continuity in the run-up to the tournament, the NFF have decided to offer Mr Peseiro a new contract until after the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. There had been reports that the 63-year-old Portuguese coach would not be offered a contract extension by the NFF but it appears that both parties are close to reaching an agreement on a new deal.
His further stay as the handler of the Super Eagles beyond the Nations Cup, however, depends on the team’s performance in Cote d’Ivoire 2023. Mr Peseiro, a former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela coach was contracted by the NFF last May to manage the Nigeria's national soccer team.
