Fayose says he will not accept a position to serve in Tinubu's cabinet if appointed

FORMER Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has revealed that he will never accept a  ministerial appointment from President Bola Tinubu should he be named for a position as he believes he is too old for it.

Governor Fayose, 62, has been an ardent supporter of President Tinubu, despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This has fuelled speculation that he will be offered a ministerial appointment over the com8ng week as the president gets set to name his nominees.

However,  while speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Sunday Politics, yesterday, Governor Fayose dismissed the suggestion. He added that it was time for people like himself who have already served ion government to take a back seat and allow fresh faces take over.

Governor Fayose said:  “I will never take it. Many of us who have reached the age of 70, almost 65 and above, should be asked to go and bring our children, our grown-up children, well educated.

“Already, their future has been stolen as the future of these young people has been stolen. They have run over their time with our time. Let me tell you very straightforward, if the future is for these young people, Asiwaju, to my own view and I shared this with him and I say it again, should be 40% for oldies like us, 30% for women and 30%  for young people."

He added that a majority of the older generation of politicians have had a taste of government more than three, four, five times. Governor Fayose argued that his show of solidarity with Tinubu, was not for party politics but for his belief in his person.

“I didn’t start to work for Asiwaju today, though he is a longstanding member of the opposition. Let me tell you, I am not looking for a position,” Governor Fayose added.
