ENGLISH Championship side Blackburn Rovers has decided to release Anglo-Nigerian defender Tayo Edun so he can find a new club during the current transfer window as the players was not seeing much action at Ewood Park.
Signed from Lincoln City in the summer of 2021, Edun played a bit-part role last season, making only one start in the Championship and his playing time is unlikely to increase if he remains at Blackburn Rovers in the forthcoming season. Edun, 25, was not named in the matchday squad as Blackburn Rovers kicked off their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw against Accrington Stanley.
Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed that the former England youth teamer will be allowed to move on from Ewood Park this summer. With a departure on the cards, Edun's number seven shirt has been allocated to summer signing from CSKA Moscow, Arnor Sigurdsson.
Mr Tomasson said: "He’s not involved and he’s one of the players who will be going away. At the moment he doesn’t have that option, I think we will see a lot of movement in the next weeks in that way.”
Edun spent the formative years of his career at Fulham before sealing a permanent transfer to Lincoln City in 2020. He is a 2017 European U19 champion with England's Young Lions and has appeared in 87 matches in the Football League, scoring three goals.
