As we all eagerly await the details of who will be appointed as Nigeria’s next health minister I just hope that President Tinubu has a policy that looks like this lined up for implementation

[1] Africa accounts for 25% of the world’s diseases but only 2% of the thr planet’s doctors. President Tinubu must promise to ensure those two figures match in Nigeriw by the end of his tenure

[2] There will be a blanket ban on all ministers, legislators, governors and commissioners going abroad for medical treatment. Anyone who insists on foreign healthcare must resign from office before travelling abroad

[3] A Nigerian Healthcare Expenditure Bill will be passed compelling every state to spend at least 15% of its gross domestic product (GDP) on health

[4] 12 specialist hospitals shall be established in Nigeria with two in each geo-political zone. These shall include - Dermatology, optometrics, renal failure, cardialogy, neurology, ear/throat/nose, cancer, Hiv/Aids, orthopedia, rheumatics, tropical diseases and sickle cell anaemia

[5] Pharmaceutical companies will be given 10 year tax holidays if they establish manufacturing facilities in Nigeria

[6] Each of Nigeria's 774 local governments must have at least one general hospital

[7] Healthcare will be free at the point of delivery to all Nigerians

[8] Every state government must have at least one mobile clinic which visits remote and inaccessible areas

[9] A national target of 20 minutes waiting time shall be established for all ambulance services

[10] A national target of producing 20,000 doctors a year shall be aimed for
